My wish for 2018: Slow down. Everybody. You don't need to be the first site to report that TAYLOR SWIFT's REPUTATION tour, which doesn't start until May, is "shaping up to be a disaster." Nor do you need to be the first to report it "could be one of the biggest of all time." The irony of this week's warring stories, one of which is definitely wrong—and quite possibly both are—is that they're both trying to quickly, prematurely judge a tour which is using the concept of "slow ticketing." There are valid questions as to whether slow ticketing will benefit fans or if it will work at all, and plenty of legitimate complaints about the exact way Taylor Swift is going about it (and the prices she's charging). But the idea—that you can give more control to artists and promoters and less to scalpers by literally slowing down the pace of ticket sales—is an intriguing one, worth a try and worth the benefit of your doubt, at least for now. And it might be smart to report on in a little more slowly. Maybe promoters and venues should be concerned tickets aren't selling at "1989" tour speed, maybe they shouldn't, maybe we don't know yet and maybe that's OK. Maybe just breathe. It's 2018. Happy new year. Take it slow... More new year wishes: Let's not call 21-year-old singers who choose to not perform in ISRAEL for now anti-semitic, and let's especially not do so with full-page ads in major metropolitan newspapers, but on the other hand thank you for supporting the free press with your wallet, SHMULEY BOTEACH... Let's remember how to pronounce that COOLIO song, especially if we're in the "Double JEOPARDY" round... Let's praise presidents who listen to DANIEL CAESAR and TRAVIS SCOTT and read books... Let's all get a scoop of the A$AP ROCKY ROAD or the 2 LIVE BLUE ice cream at MR. KREAM WYNWOOD in MIAMI (but if they're not also serving KENDRICK LAMARSHMALLOW, let's organize a boycott, obviously)... Now that we know who's headlining COACHELLA, let's prepare those second-day stories about Coachella poster font sizes (I'll wave my "slow reporting" rule for those, you're welcome). KAMASI WASHINGTON is in nice size type. PERFUME GENIUS and YAEJI might want to talk to their managers... RIP RICK HALL, JASON BROWNING and ROBERT MANN.
