QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
I'm not a freestyle [artist]. I take my time and write... I call it putting it in the oven. I bake my music and put it out.

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and the fact that someone at this very moment is trying to figure out a new way to stop people from dancing. In LA, the annual HALLOWEEN fest HARD DAY OF THE DEAD has ghosted on the city's EDM community, and though promoters haven't said why, the prevailing opinion is that it's getting harder and harder to find a venue willing to hold a rave. The LA TIMES pins this to "a summer of deaths" in the SOCAL rave community. "Really. A summer of deaths. Really," answers KASKADE, who argues that blaming raves for teenage substance abuse basically amounts to replacing the war on drugs with a war on dance, without really addressing the substance-abuse problem at all. He suggests an alternative approach: "education, harm reduction and legalization." THE CONVERSATION's BEATE PETER explores the contrasting approaches of LONDON, where dance clubs have been under attack this summer, and BERLIN, where they have received the government's seal of approval. Lest you think this is anything new, RED BULL TV's documentary "DISCO DEMOLITION: RIOT TO REBIRTH" chronicles the spectacular intolerance of the "disco sucks" movement, as infamously expressed in 1979 CHICAGO. Organizers of Disco Demolition Night weren't worried about drugs or sex or anything except the music itself -- and, by implication, the (black, gay) people who loved it. The doc captures STEVE DAHL, the rock DJ who was the public face of the movement, enumerating his beefs with disco, most tellingly this: "I can't dance"... Summer officially ended in the NORTHERN HEMISPHERE on Wednesday and we officially do not have a song of the summer. We officially can not agree on anything, not even a single pop song. #2016... Happy birthday MOM. This is for you... RIP SHAWTY LO and DJ SPANK-SPANK... MusicREDEF is taking a day off Friday for some housekeeping. See you Monday!
