QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
I had the choice to shut my mouth and not be political in order to catapult my fame and popularity and my bank balance. But that's not the choice I made.

Yes, the hook of this one sounds like the piano riff in that one, and now the guys who wrote this one have given the guys who wrote that one a piece of the songwriting, and everyone is happy and no one has to feel guilty, except maybe all other songwriters for the rest of time, who will find themselves living in a world where the old adage "there is no such thing as a new idea" has become a legally provable, actionable fact. The NEW YORKER's JIA TOLENTINO uses the case of the CHAINSMOKERS and the FRAY to discuss the "instantly familiar" appeal of good pop songs and how the internet "makes it increasingly easy ... for artists to be held economically accountable to whomever might have inspired them, even subconsciously." To be economically accountable, in other words, for the very familiarity that their trade requires. Presumably some band 10 years down the road will subconsciously swipe a different part of the Chainsmokers' "CLOSER" and be forced to give DREW TAGGART and ALEX PALL a piece of their new song, and then sooner or later, as the economic accountability continues to be paid forward, everyone will come out even... AXL ROSE on why IZZY STRADLIN isn't playing with the current version of GUNS N' ROSES: "I don’t really know what to say about Izzy. It’s, like, you could have a conversation and think it’s one way and the next day it’s another way. And I’m not trying to take any shots at Izzy. It’s just his thing is kind of his thing, whatever that is.” Izzy in his fourth ever tweet: "Bulls***. They didn't want to split the loot equally. Simple as that." This would probably be a very short trial... It's FRIDAY and that means new music from M.I.A., JASON ALDEAN, JACK WHITE, ST. PAUL & THE BROKEN BONES, DANIEL LANOIS, BASTILLE, LOCAL NATIVES, WILCO, JOY WILLIAMS, BILLY RAY CYRUS, GABY MORENO, JOSHUA REDMAN & BRAD MEHLDAU, NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS, THE HEAD & THE HEART, GROUPLOVE, GAVIN DEGRAW, OKKERVIL RIVER and TEENAGE FANCLUB...
