The week kicked off with some she said/he said drama between ADELE and the NFL. She announced from the stage at one of her LA concerts that she wasn't playing the 2017 SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW because it's "not about music," which prompted the NFL to respond that they didn't actually offer her the slot. Sensing a void, KANYE WEST'S fans started a petition to get him the coveted headlining gig, which seems like a great idea until you consider how unlikely that marriage is to get out of contract negotiations. The problem the NFL and PEPSI are facing is a lack of headline-worthy acts. We live in a world full of mid-level pop stars. The artist with the default song of the summer, DRAKE, would be unknown to many American households. KATY PERRY and BEYONCÉ already did it. It's hard to get young consumers to tune in when you bring in older rockers like THE ROLLING STONES or PAUL MCCARTNEY. I suggest a giant mash-up, curated by DIPLO, of ARIANA GRANDE, SKRILLEX, JUSTIN BIEBER and why not throw in some CHANCE THE RAPPER. Maybe we should see if they can dance first... Japanese audiophiles are taking matters into their own hands when it comes to getting the most of their fidelity. They're installing their own utility poles in order to get "pure power" and cause the groove to come bumping through their stereos. Can you match that level of obsession?... I binge watched the first season (so far) of BRAINDEAD (from the co-creators of THE GOOD WIFE) and was pleasantly surprised to find they're using a unique musical device for their "previously on" segments. Musician JONATHAN COULTON writes a new little pop ditty for each episode, to catch the viewer up. Also, what they're doing for THE CARS' "YOU MIGHT THINK" is absolutely shocking. Now we know for sure that RIC OCASEK has a good sense of humor.
