QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
I believe that there is an objective truth that exists with quality audio, an objective truth that exists outside of my mind or the artist's' mind. It's a collective opinion and ultimately a truth about what sounds good. That's what I'm trying to be in touch with.

The 500th edition of LOS ANGELES' long-running club night LOW END THEORY is this WEDNESDAY, which is reason to a) celebrate, b) put on a FLYING LOTUS record and c) read this novella-length Q&A with LET co-founder (and producer, engineer, DJ and jack-of-all-trades) DADDY KEV. It's an inspiring and occasionally rambling chat that goes into more than a little detail about mixing and mastering, navigating the music biz, avoiding the music biz, discovering music, running a club night (and festival), drinking-and-DJing, the power of instrumental electronic music, and lots of other music and life stuff. Read it... Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of two of the most classic of classic rock records, which did not go unnoticed: BOB DYLAN's "BLONDE ON BLONDE" and the BEACH BOYS' "PET SOUNDS." One wonders which major magazines you would have had to read in 1966 to find stories about the biggest releases of 1916... SASHA FRERE-JONES, who has had one of the stranger career trajectories of any major music critic, did not get a chance to clean out his desk upon his unceremonious exit from the LA TIMES. "They cleared it for him," an insider tells THE WRAP... This is most definitely not an encouraging sign for PONO... RIP BILL BACKER, who wanted to teach the world to sing (in perfect harmony), and JANE LITTLE, who played double bass for the ATLANTA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA for 71 years.
