(Hail Merry)
A colleague asks if there's any precedent for removing artists like JAY Z and KANYE WEST from an already released single. There must be, but I'm stumped; I'd love to hear from you if you have a good example -- especially from the pre-digital age. What strikes me most about DRAKE's move with "POP STYLE," which no longer features the THRONE, is how distinctly digital it is. DRAKE couldn't have removed that (kinda meh) KANYE verse from his single any more than KANYE could have kept editing his own album in a world of tangible, physical products. You could have remixed, but you couldn't UN-mix, as in make the previous mix go away. Or, at least, it would have been a lot harder. I wish I could edit the chair I'm sitting on as I write this... Seven hours and 13 days after PRINCE's death, several radio stations will simultaneously play PRINCE's "NOTHING COMPARES 2 U" at 6:07 pm ET today... Two thoughts on the uber-classic-rock fest that will forever be known as OLDCHELLA: $199 per day or $399 and up for three days is not an unfair ticket price for that lineup. But I wish at least a couple of the acts would promise to not play the same pro forma shows you can see anywhere else on their tours. Would it be asking too much to request the ROLLING STONES play "BETWEEN THE BUTTONS" all the way through?... RIP AFENI SHAKUR.
