QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
More people need to offer their support and solidarity to women instead of putting the choice on them or making them demand it/beg for it.

AMBER COFFMAN of DIRTY PROJECTORS is a hero for going online MONDAY to tell the story of being sexually harassed by a prominent music PR and management executive, and naming him. Her tweets prompted several other women to go public with ugly stories about the same man, and within 24 hours, the target of the accusations, HEATHCLIFF BERRU, had stepped down as CEO of LIFE OR DEATH PR & MANAGEMENT, whose clients include KILLER MIKE, ODD FUTURE, D'ANGELO and KING KRULE. At least four artists, WAVVES, SPEEDY ORTIZ, DIIV and KELELA, publicly fired the company yesterday. Public hangings aren't cool, but that's not what this was. This was a community of (mostly) women sharing painful memories, supporting each other and saying out loud what is too often shrouded in silence. There wasn't a single threat in any of COFFMAN's series of tweets and retweets, but there was talk of accountability and an expression of regret that she hadn't spoken out sooner. More women -- and men -- do need to speak out (and not just in the music world). They don't because they are taught to blame themselves for crimes committed against them, and because they are encouraged, cajoled even, to look the other way, or worse. And THAT is a lot less cool than a public hanging. And that needs to stop. This one-word comment, from my friend JUDY MILLER SILVERMAN at MOTORMOUTHMEDIA, is important. BERRU released a statement TUESDAY night saying he is "deeply sorry for those who I have offended by my actions and how I have made certain women feel" and adding he will seek treatment for a drug and alcohol addiction... To all you pundits who had the courage to write yesterday about how much you still hate the EAGLES: yay for you... This GLENN FREY co-write is as close to perfect as pop gets... RIP (for now) "THAT METAL SHOW"... An interactive timeline of the TECHNICS SL-1200... Mea culpa: I incorrectly reported yesterday that DALLAS TAYLOR was among the musicians we lost this weekend. In fact, the ex-CSNY drummer died a year ago. My dumb-but-true excuse: I forgot what year it is.
