QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life.

Another day, another heartache tonight. Dear gods, we could use a little relief right about now, please. The EAGLES are one of those bands whose influence on decades of rock, pop and country is so immense that it's almost invisible, and whose continuing presence in our collective consciousness makes it easy to take for granted the art and craftsmanship that went into that music. Which was immense. If DON HENLEY was the EAGLES' pop star, with his crystalline voice, beautiful face and an extra tank or two in his cantankerousness, then GLENN FREY was the EAGLES' rock, the guy who grounded the band's SOCAL smoothness with his MIDWESTERN grit, who glued together those folk, rock and country roots with his astonishing harmonic sensibility, and who, according to HENLEY himself, was "the one who started it all. He was the spark plug, the man with the plan." As with all great rock partnerships, there was also some not-well-hidden disharmony, and it brought a smile to my face that HENLEY worked the word "dysfunction" into the first sentence of his moving tribute to his bandmate of 45 years. We collect remembrances and classic interviews in our REDEF MusicSET "REMEMBERING GLENN FREY," which we'll be adding to as the appreciations continue to pour in... It was a second straight heartbreaking weekend in rock deaths. RIP MOTT THE HOOPLE drummer DALE GRIFFIN (who I hope is jamming with DAVID BOWIE at this very moment), CLARENCE "BLOWFLY" REID and CHAMBER STRINGS frontman KEVIN JUNIOR.
