Idea for a music news app: Write a program that scrapes SPOTIFY play counts, connects it to standard SPOTIFY pay rates and spits out 15 or 20 bot-written news stories a day complaining that artist X got streamed Y times and only made Z cents. In the meantime, can we just stipulate that every artist who has ever been streamed anywhere isn't making enough money, and spare everybody else the clicks?... I don't need my favorite musicians (or actors, writers, etc.) to be perfect human beings -- they often are not -- but I would prefer they not go out of their way to broadcast to the world exactly how imperfect they can be. AZEALIA BANKS, please stop tweeting. When you say certain things repeatedly in one of the world's most popular public forums, you can kind of expect to get called on those certain things you're saying... If I'm reading my INTERNET news correctly, DEAFHEAVEN guitarist KERRY MCCOY is getting called out for using one of AZEALIA BANKS' favorite words repeatedly on TWITTER, circa 2012. There's no defending his tweets either. But one does wonder if there's a statute of limitations on public immaturity. MCCOY and BANKS both deserve the chance to grow up... There's no defense for some of CHRIS BROWN's life choices, which have extended well beyond name-calling. But when a certain island continent/country in the southern hemisphere singles him out for banishment, shortly after effectively singling out TYLER, THE CREATOR in the same way, and after NOT singling any of the rock and pop musicians called out in this thought-provoking essay, one wonders what exactly it is that AUSTRALIA is trying to keep out of its borders... CLAIRE DANES loves BERGHAIN.
