QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
The worst thing you can say to a creative person, I think, is 'You can do anything.' That is the kiss of death. You should say to them, 'You can't do this. You definitely can't do that. And under no circumstances can you do that.' Then they'll start thinking in a different, more creative way.

The thing about the SONG OF THE SUMMER -- or the song of any season, or any moment -- is that no one gets to choose it. It tends to choose itself. We don't will it into being so much as we realize at a certain point that it has already been willed. The other thing is it's a silly concept, as there tend to be a lot of songs at the air at any moment, or in any season, and it depends on all sorts of context. That said, SPOTIFY says THE WEEKND'S "CAN'T FEEL MY FACE" was this summer's most streamed song in the U.S., and MAJOR LAZER's "LEAN ON" the most streamed song globally, so pick one of those contexts and may start there. Or maybe start with the entirety of FETTY WAP, who owned summer 2015 according to COMPLEX. Or JASON DERULO's "WANT TO WANT ME," the UK's biggest selling song of the summer. Or go off the menu with WAXAHATCHEE, whose "BREATHLESS" is a different sort of song of the summer. Or maybe, OMG, there wasn't a song of the summer, and we're in real trouble now... PRINCE's "HITNRUN PHASE ONE" showed up yesterday as a TIDAL exclusive, possibly a permanent one for all anybody knows, a typically strange release strategy that's guaranteed to move the needle for neither entity. But it ends with the astonishing "JUNE," a sort of mini "TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET" except we're trapped in PRINCE's head: "Somebody famous had a birthday today/All I saw was another full moon/What's that?/Something's burning on the stove/Must be the pasta/Must be the pasta/Oh yeah/It's JUNE." More like this, please, PURPLE sir... RIP ska trombone legend RICO RODRIGUEZ and DETROIT rapper DEX OSAMA.
