Friends... they cherish one another's hopes. They are kind to one another's dreams.

I'm in NYC right now. Flew back for a sit-down conversation with my dear friend DISNEY exec JIMMY PITARO at CORNELL ILR SPORTS LEADERSHIP SUMMIT. We discussed career, DISNEY, startups vs. big companies, brands, mentors, the journey, the future, and more... It took me 90 mins to get from TRIBECA to midtown. The city is nuts for some UNITED NATIONS stuff and the orange monster is here. The traffic in NYC is an epic disaster. Don't even talk to me about LA. LA traffic you can avoid. If you go to CULVER CITY or BURBANK at 4pm you deserve to sit in f***ing traffic for your unwise choice. But traffic got me thinking about taxis vs. UBER. Lots of money invested in cabs. But it's a product that is remarkably bad. I've written about this before. The cab is in bad shape. Not a huge base of "navigational knowledge" either. I asked a cab driver why he wasn't using WAZE. "I don't need it, I drive around all day." Essentially a gut thinker. Normally, i have no problem with gut calls. But here is a technology that benefits both sides of the seat. That cab driver made every wrong navigational choice he possibly could have for an NYC trip. It's an industry that may not deserve to continue because it forgot about product, service, training and technology. An example of a monopoly that was protected from competition. Whereas, the Uber driver that picked me up from JFK on Friday shaved an hour off our trip to NYC. Took 90 mins which is terrible, but would have taken even longer if not for Waze. I feel bad, but taxis just don't have the competitive game.... While JOE ARPAIO likely would have stopped, searched and questioned many of the EMMY winners and nominees without cause, I was pretty proud to see diverse faces on TV especially at this time. And super proud of MGM and HULU for the much-deserved HANDMAID'S TALE wins. This is a moment for HULU. A legitimate arrival moment. They need to run with it. They are spending a third of what NETFLIX spends and need to keep the momentum because it's really originals that drive user growth. They'll need to implement a CLIVE DAVIS-like A&R strategy. Making less but mostly all good. Clive is the master of picking and delivering. Not scale. Well, scale on sales of course... Can a sports TV anchor call the president a white supremacist without starting a war between the White House and her network, and between the network and the rest of the media? Is there any winning move for the network caught in the middle? Should ESPN stick to sports? Is that even an option anymore? We take a look at the fascinating topic in SportsSET: "ESPN Has a 'Personal Politics' Problem and It's Going to Lose Either Way" We're big fans of FAST COMPANY and DAVID LIDSKY. So was pretty proud to have REDEF listed atop their best newsletter picks... FARGO may be TV's greatest achievement. It has a different storyline each season. A different cast. And nothing to do with the movie. It's inspired by the "world" of the original film. Creator NOAH HAWLEY delivered an exceptional third season with stinging critiques of timely subjects like global economics. Binge now. We think "'Fargo' Season 3 Proved It's The Best Show On Television"... The babies got a dog. They named her LOLA. I wanted them to wait and earn it more but I'm the uncle. No one give a s*** what the uncle says. We barely have an observer board seat. But they're happy, and that makes me happy...
