JOHN MAYER in a great and introspective interview with CHARLIE ROSE. On songwriting, playing, personal meaning vs fan interpretation, fame, releasing music in the digital world and more. He plays MSG in NYC tonight... MTV needs to step away from nostalgia and lean into the present and future with its programming and brand. When I see a youth-oriented network that used to be a trendsetter and magnifier stacking repeats of FRIENDS, I worry. The relevance of that brand in the U.S. is VIACOM's biggest task and turnaround. Feeling pretty confident that JIM GIANOPULOS will get some early wins at PARAMOUNT. The MTV story is the one to watch... I think that FOX NEWS, which it really isn't, is a cancer on our society. Yes, I'm sure fans of it will scream about MSNBC or CNN and yet never really answer questions and concerns about it. I'm not talking about them now. Maybe later. But the entire AILES, O'REILLY and general throwing of gasoline on the fire organization it is. Yes, I'm probably biased. And probably not wrong. Fox News may have been one of the greatest business ideas in the history of television and a wonderful investment for the company but it's down to legacy now. And its legacy will be that of a major if not leading contributor to the downfall of decent political discourse in this country. Yes, talk radio and crazy conspiracy-laden lying sites too. But FOX was the magnifier and architect. Advertisers moving their money off the net should take a bigger stand on it's clean up. They won't. And likely not their problem, but I would argue it's a problem for all of us... Starting to realize how much confusion ensues when we mix morality, ethics, equality with the law. They're not the same. Thinking a lot about what the FIRST AMENDMENT protects. The reprehensible for good reason. To protect us all... We let them into our living rooms every night. They don't just call the games, they are a part of the experience. And they have some stories of their own to tell. REDEF SportsSET: "Soundtrack of Sports: The Stories Behind the Voices"... Another PEPSI ad? JEFF SESSIONS handing out clubs and sodas to police and while ripping up the constitution and looking the other way... Love... Happy Birthday SOPHIE WORTH, MICHAEL LEARMONTH, GOLI SHEIKHOLESLAMI, SANDY GRUSHOW, SUSAN BISHOP and JESSE COLE .
