Getting a story or prediction wrong is not the same as fake news... There's so much venom and divide around political discourse. I respected MERYL STREEP's speech last night as an example of a model on how to bridge the divide between us. Appealing to basic humanity and empathy. Not political issues. Appealing to commonalities. I tweeted as such and immediately the trolls came after me. They thought it was political. I'm beginning to see the pattern. They're fast, have few followers, are often vicious, sling insults and are not interested in any dialogue. I block most but it shows me definitively how much a problem TWITTER has with this behavior. While I don't favor censorship I have no clue how Twitter views this coordinated activity and what they're going to do about it. I don't mind dissent or debate. I mind name calling, pigeon-holing and boiler rooms where this activity likely happens. I don't care what your politics are... Finished NETFLIX's THE CROWN over the holidays. I couldn't help but think of young MICHAEL CORLEONE's transition in THE GODFATHER when watching ELIZABETH's journey to QUEEN...MARC BODNICK on HOLLYWOOD FOREIGN PRESS. I couldn't care less about the validity of the GOLDEN GLOBES but I do care about the art and the artists. I was amazed it wasn't streamed on the internet. I was also amazed by how many films I had not seen. This is a direct result of the rise of TV's golden age and NETFLIX in my life. That said, I'll catch up on most. But makes me wonder, yet again, when the film business will relent to day-and-date release in the home. Also wondering which entrepreneurs are going to mint a fortune making films in "the middle" that the studio system has dismissed. As media consolidation happens, companies get bigger and the product they put out needs to move the financial needle and also get bigger. This is interesting as consumer expectations become more niche-oriented. Someone is going to figure this out and make bank... Some people I want to meet in 2017: HOWARD STERN, GRANDMASTER FLASH, JEFF BEZOS, FAREED ZAKARIA, ALEC BALDWIN, THEO EPSTEIN, QUESTLOVE, BARACK OBAMA, RALPH LAUREN, DAN RATHER, STEVEN SPIELBERG, PHARRELL WILLIAMS, JUDD APATOW, JENNY MOLLEN, DAVID BLAINE, CHRIS COX, BEN EVANS, Q-TIP, VINCE GILLIGAN, RICK RUBIN, LIEV SCHREIBER, IAN BREMMER, NOEL GALLAGHER, S.E. CUPP, BEN THOMPSON, SHONDA RHIMES, KATE MCKINNON, PAUL RYAN, OPRAH WINFREY... I fail all the time at REDEF. But I can't engage in anything unless the goal is to be the best. Rarely get there but that is the bar. All founders have weaknesses and frustrations no matter what the myth is. I do too. Ignoring or repetition of the same issues puts me on tilt... Congrats to my childhood friend TRACEE ELLIS ROSS on winning a Golden Globe... Whoever sent me that great bottle of ANTINORI TIGNANELLO wine for XMAS, thank you. There was no note... Happy Birthday to LOCKHART STEELE, HANK VIGIL, EDWIN KHODABAKCHIAN, MICHAEL FRICKLAS, RYAN HOOVER, JEFF HUSVAR, TAMI BHAUMIK, RANDY SMITH, JOSH BROOKS, ANNELISE PETERSON, and HAL WALKER. Belated to FashionREDEF's MINDY MEISSEN, TED COHEN and MARK PASETSKY.
