At REDEF we've always been and always will be open to all sides, all arguments… We value conversation, discussion, and debate. It's not enough to be smart. You have to be curious. And alternative views lead to understanding... We seek to learn and to grow. We believe in open doors. We don't believe in walls – neither literal walls between borders nor metaphorical walls between people… We talk to and try to persuade people who disagree with us – or engage to have them persuade us. We don't seek to destroy them. We don't seek to jail them. We don't seek to execute them. We believe in diplomacy… There’s no doubt that many of our fellow citizens are still hurting and the road ahead is long. Unemployment has steadily shrunk. Not everyone who wants to work is working, but a lot more are working than were when PRESIDENT OBAMA took office and yet people are still hurting. The working class feels it's been left behind. Racial tensions are everywhere. A fear of terrorism… DONALD TRUMP has resonated with fellow Americans with real concerns. There is pain and desperation. And those emotions often lead to desperate choices: A candidate that represents the worst of us... But we believe with all our hearts that he’s the wrong person to address them. He’s neither said nor done anything that truly suggests he knows how to help them, or even that he wants to. He has a lifelong track record of helping himself at the expense of others. Not paying contractors. Not paying taxes. He’s taken every advantage of a system he now claims is corrupt. What has made it corrupt? People like Trump. He is the corruption… He's a bully. A nasty man. He treats Mexicans as enemies. He treats Muslims as enemies. He treats women as enemies. He treats his own party as enemies. He sees everyone who isn't on his side not as a colleague or a peer, But as an enemy who must be destroyed. Do we really want a President who openly encourages violence against fellow citizens? Who openly questions the heroism of American war heroes? Who openly treats women as sex objects and brags about abusing them? Who, like all bullies, has skin thinner than rice paper?... He's a pathological liar. This is a perfect microcosm of his ability to lie about literally anything, no matter how blatant… This is not a close call. HILLARY CLINTON is an experienced, accomplished public servant. She wants to help people. She has helped people. And boy has she made some mistakes. So have you. So have I. So has everyone alive. She will make some more. She’s human. She’s for women’s rights. She’s for affordable health insurance. She’s for diplomacy. She’s for reasonable immigration. She’s for reasonable gun control. She will appoint reasonable SUPREME COURT justices. She may not be a dream President but she’s fit. She will lend an ear — and maybe even the power of her Presidency — to many of those progressive DEMOCRATS and moderate REPUBLICANS who are still unsure about her… Unlike her opponent, she wants to work with people. She wants to help people. And if she wins, it's on us to hold her to account... Writing this wasn’t a hard decision. Why? The lack of empathy. The continued mean streak. The normalization of evil. The co-opting of hate. All of these employed daily by Trump. I’ve written about it before. America is an idea. A great idea. Often we fail to live up to the bar set by our founders. But we must try every day. Our morality as a nation is everything. Trump would lead its destruction. We want change. There are many perversions of our system. It's not all bad, but change is needed. We want our leaders to be like JIMMY STEWART in MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON. Someone who cares with the right motivations. I wish for a FRANK CAPRA-like America. But Trump is no Mr. Smith. To him it's just another thing to own. A prize. He has no interest in the work. In helping others... ABRAHAM LINCOLN once said: "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Let's not destroy ourselves... You may or may not agree. This may turn you off to us but we've always explained how we've felt about what's around us. This is no different... Whatever you end up thinking, please vote this Tuesday...
