NEW YORK FASHION WEEK begins tomorrow morning -- here are some of the shows I'm looking forward to... Among the up-and-comers, I'm excited to see AREA, PYER MOSS, ADAM SELMAN, and MONSE. Loved AREA's spaced-out glam last season, admire PYER MOSS' willingness to explicitly politicize his work, ADAM SELMAN's got a keen sense for balancing quirky and wearable, and MONSE brought both elegance and energy to their debut collection a few months ago... In the "still crazy after all these years" category, I'm checking for MARC JACOBS and 3.1 PHILLIP LIM. LIM recently celebrated a 10-year anniversary and showed a strong men's collection in PARIS, and JACOBS' flair for presentation hasn't diminished over time. He knows how to put on a show, and can still do excellent work -- his last collection was one of my favorites of 2015... Will be curious to see what PUBLIC SCHOOL's DAO-YI CHOW and MAXWELL OSBORNE have cooked up for their second season at DKNY. I disliked their first collection, but we'll see what they can do after having had a season to settle in... If I could see only one show, it'd be HOOD BY AIR. SHAYNE OLIVER's only gotten better and better since rising to prominence... Of course, fashion week is about more than the clothes. There are parties to attend. Street style photographers to entice, celebs to gawp at, fake phone numbers to give to hedge fund managers, and, occasionally, great DJs. On FRIDAY, check out the CHROMAT afterparty at LE BAIN featuring UNIIQU3 and UMFANG, then do GHE20G0TH1K at STUDIO 299. GHE20G0TH1K was co-founded by HOOD BY AIR designer SHAYNE OLIVER, and their parties heavily informed his early work. Plus, you'll get to see TOTAL FREEDOM, a personal favorite. Bonus: these two are open to the public. If you want to sneak into something exclusive, though, PAPER MAGAZINE's got you covered with a list of invite-only parties complete with guesstimates of how tricky they'll be to infiltrate. I fully endorse this kind of behavior, though will not be covering repairs for outfits wrecked as a result of you getting busted and UNCLE PHIL'd out of the club... If you plan to tune in from the office, RACKED has assembled a handle live-streaming calendar...
