QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
I want people to understand that this kid had no choice. She couldn't function. She couldn't work. [USA Gymnastics] were willing to sacrifice the health and well-being of one of the most famous gymnasts in the world because they didn't want the world to know they were protecting a pedophile doctor.

I don't know what a catch is. I know what a catch was. I know what a catch should be. Confusing enough? That's your introduction to the NFL's catch rule. The opposite of common sense. Wouldn't know it if you saw it. The STEELERS' JESSE JAMES probably has some thoughts after his game-winning touchdown was overturned against the PATRIOTS. Is it good for the league if fans, let alone players, don't know what they're watching? Is it hurting the NFL? Were more people talking about the (non) catch Sunday or the great game they saw? Sometimes leagues try too hard to be detailed. A result of instant replay giving them too much power. MLB can check if a base-stealer's foot barely got off the bag. The NFL can turn AUSTIN SEFERIAN-JENKINS from hero to goat. Is getting the call exactly right really worth it? Rule ambiguity isn't good for the NFL. There are ways to fix the rule. Is it outmoded to let the eyes make the call? SportsSET: "A Catch or Not a Catch? That Is the Question"... The DAN LE BATARD SHOW had a tense interview with MLB commissioner ROB MANFRED. Can't remember last time I heard a commissioner get interrogated like Manfred was, especially by a rights holder. Manfred walked into the lion's den but the interview was fair, even if it was combative. Le Batard has been a vocal critic of new MARLINS owners BRUCE SHERMAN and DEREK JETER after the team traded GIANCARLO STANTON. Did Manfred lie or was he taking a lawyerly roundabout? Took gumption by Manfred to go on the show to answer hard questions. There's a reason commissioners and newsmakers often take the MIKE AND MIKE route instead... Not ready to give up all the passwords I share. Though I always dreaded this day would come... Shut down SIGNING DAY, a a PhD candidate created a formula to predict where recruits will commit... I'm sorry, sir, the keycard no longer works... Who would do such a thing?... SportsREDEF is taking a break for CHRISTMAS. But don't fear, you'll have a newsletter under your tree Monday morning. We'll be back later next week with a few year-end editions.
