That moment when you realize the CUBS, METS and BLUE JAYS have won playoff games on the same day... That moment when you realize CHASE UTLEY is not going to leave the dugout... In a case of either fortuitous or terrible timing, ESPN tonight premieres "TROJAN WAR," its 30 FOR 30 doc about the rise and fall of USC football under PETE CARROLL. The premiere comes less than 36 hours after USC fired STEVE SARKISIAN, whose reign will make an unfortunately fitting subject if they need bonus content for the DVD release... ESPN's GRANTLAND is in danger of entering the "fall" side of its own rise-and-fall story with the news of a mass exodus of key employees, many of them apparently heading for BILL SIMMONS' new office door. It's possible GRANTLAND doesn't make sense for ESPN without SIMMONS (who, for his part, might have argued it didn't make sense for ESPN even with him). But I hope I'm wrong. It has some of the most consistently excellent reporting and writing about sports anywhere, on or offline... DEFLATEGATE is a college course. Naturally. "This is not a community for PATRIOTS fans," says professor MICHAEL MCCANN, whose reporting on sports and the law is often featured here. "It’s an undergraduate course designed to talk about the law." No word on whether there'll be a CHASE UTLEY course next semester.
