QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
You have to see it to believe it. Six floors, thirteen thousand square feet of fashion lunacy. Or, as Rei puts it, 'an ongoing atmosphere of strong and beautiful chaos.' in other words, 'DARE TO SHOP HERE!!'

Until the COMME DES GARÇONS exhibition opens at the MET, we'll be pulled in to orbit, all screens and eyeballs revolving around the CDG universe. Not a bad place to be. This ode to REI KAWAKUBO has surfaced online for the first time, and it's a joy to read on style, subversion, and moving between worlds with wildly different views on taste and appearance. That's fashion. Thank the universe for JOHN WATERS... The CDG universe includes myriad labels and sub-labels that pull in over $280 million in annual revenue. CHAVIE LIEBER tells the story of the business empire... AMAZON ECHO LOOK launched, and early reactions went immediately to privacy concerns. Given the limited utility of algo styling, it's hard not to knee-jerk react to this as more transactional than fun, whereby machine learning algorithms scrape more value out of you and your fit pics than you out of a service telling you whether your shirt fits. If even mildly successful, this is the beginning of a long road ahead for machine learning and apparel. An unintended use of this could be having a personal fit pic library integrated into your pie-in-the-sky smart home. It's all being developed rapidly; when one company gets it right, they'll take it all. It's CHER's virtual closet in CLUELESS, made for the cloud. There's no way algo styling could handle CDG, when per John Waters, most people's parents get slightly fired up over it. ALEXA, can you tell me about Rei Kawakubo's contributions to style?... CHRISTOPHER KANE is interviewed in THE TALKS... NAPOLEON's (yes, that Napoleon) chapeau... 2% lycra, spandex, or elastane really changes things. It's a revolution borne of the plastics industry, synthetic textiles, and shifting ideas of leisure and comfort. Now it's openly marketed for guys. If only this technology had been around in the days of trunk hose.
