QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
I am skeptical about startup brands raising a bunch of money. I don't believe product businesses should. We haven't seen many successful exits in the brand world, just successful financing.

MODELS.COM posed one question to models in a survey: "How do you, the model, want to be treated?" Published answers fall in a range from bad to worse, to "smh" to "okay, that's just insane." Some of the stories detail outright abuse. All models published in the survey express some form of ambivalence about the job. One has to wonder what kind of structural forces exist in the industry to incentivize this behavior. And once we've figured it out, let's go ahead and cease doing that. Forever. This article from BOF gives the survey greater context in light of other accusations of models' abuse, and this book (which I've shared here before) includes well-researched analysis about the power dynamics between fashion models and their employers during the early days of fashion shows. I'd love to hear from the "Supers," models like CINDY CRAWFORD, NAOMI CAMPBELL, GISELE BÜNDCHEN, and KARLIE KLOSS, on whether they have shared experiences with these young women... On a positive note, this interview with the polymath brand consultant CURTAINS, posted on GRAILED, is a great read. At one point, Curtains' story hinges on the influence of one KANYE WEST (what doesn't nowadays?)... West's CALABASAS collection went live on YEEZY SUPPLY. Shoutout to VÉRONIQUE HYLAND for offering thoughts on the suburbia-inspired collection and the "nothing-to-see-here" paradigm in fashion... I'm a huge fan of DIGIDAY/GLOSSY's "Confessions" series. Here's an anonymous agency strategist, who brings us this revelation: "Most people hate ads." On SXSW: "How have we not called off this s***?"... The LVMH prize finalists have been announced, and VOGUE has some comments from DELPHINE ARNAULT about what's next for the judges and contestants... MASSIMO and MASSIMO.
