It could be called the TRUMP bump—what happens when the US president-elect reviles a product, such as VANITY FAIR magazine (for a reviewing a Trump Tower restaurant negatively), or BUZZFEED (for publishing the dossier that has us all looking things up in the URBAN DICTIONARY). Subscriptions for “no talent” GRAYDON CARTER’s “dead” magazine reportedly soared after the politician tweeted his dislike. Buzzfeed hawked “Failing Pile of Garbage” tees and raised tens of thousands of dollars in a day for the COMMITTEE TO PROTECT JOURNALISTS. And, should the soon-to-be COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF promote a company, well, just ask L.L.BEAN, which is rapidly walking it back (in those signature duck boots) after the founder's granddaughter’s political donations became public. The company statement points out that LINDA BEAN is "only one of 50+ family members involved in the business." Linda calls the boycott unfair and "bullying." (Maybe she can take that up with MELANIA)… DAN ZAK’s dissection of how we embrace and re-appropriate insulting terms these days is right-on… While ROBIN GIVHAN asks, “Is there anything wrong with a first lady simply buying retail?”… Listening to political speeches can be like nails on a chalkboard, but what about this: the horror... Programming note: In honor of MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY, FashionREDEF will not be published Monday. Have a great weekend and we'll return Tuesday.
