QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
I'm not trying to build a brand that will end up being in the cosmetics business… I'm trying to build beautiful clothes for women. Most of the designers today are really trying to build an empire.

NINA MCLEMORE, the unheralded designer responsible for a significant chunk of HILLARY CLINTON's wardrobe, is a fascinating interview, if for no other reason than it's rare to hear from a designer focused so squarely on the needs of their clients instead of their own creative expression. HILLARY's outfits have always looked indistinct to me, like you'd have a hard time telling what year they're from if taken out of context. That's intentional, of course, and makes her come across as stately and confident. Her preferred pantsuits actually remind me of STAR TREK's STARFLEET uniforms -- practical with simple lines and solid colors. ESQUIRE's THOMAS VINCIGUERRA reflected on the costumes' enduring impact, and cast member WALTER KOENIG said that they were "a very simple design and did not take away from the person in it. It's not something you would find yourself experiencing to the exclusion of the performance." Would not be surprised if TEAM HILLARY had similar aims... The HARPER'S BAZAAR interview with KIM and KANYE is entertaining enough but, man, is the accompanying photo shoot ever disappointing. The "celeb taking a selfie" photo trope is tired, and the hero image's 'BLOW-UP' vibes make me squeamish... On the topic of celebs doing celeb things, shoutout to JOSH EDWARDS for compiling a surprisingly large collection of photos of RIHANNA leaving restaurants with her wine glass. I realize this isn't exactly a controversial opinion, but RIHANNA is one of the few celebrities who makes an art of personal style, and I'm grateful people are actively keeping track of her work. How is this not a CORONA ad already?
