CHARLIE PORTER makes a strong argument in HEDI SLIMANE's favor. I think PORTER's right to suggest that a lot of vitriol aimed at SLIMANE and his work for SAINT LAURENT, including my own, comes from a place of elitism. Doesn't mean that I like the work -- I mostly do not -- but this whole idea that HEDI is a marketer or a stylist but not a designer is really presumptuous. Had never occurred to me how strange it is to say that someone who makes clothing is especially not a designer... KANYE on YEEZY SEASON 2: "When I see the collection I just did and use stretch terry that I found in Japan and on market canvas, heavyweight canvas and I put it in my colour palette and I see 64 different tones and I’ve created a moving expressionist painting." Me on YEEZY SEASON 2: "At its core, it's a refinement of the last season's martial expressionism." Can I write your show notes next season, KANYE?... That whole interview is recommended viewing, of course. Feel grateful that I got to spend two hours yesterday listening to a KANYE interview and legitimately call it work. My job, if you discount the imminent carpal tunnel syndrome, is pretty great... The Stand-Out Facial Hair of MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. I watch a lot (a lot) of baseball, and my appreciation of the game often tends towards its aesthetics. I love the game for its languid pace, its perfect geometry, and, more and more, its players' totally inscrutable grooming and sartorial choices. I gravitate towards players with style and personality, and I cannot abide a crummy uniform. The TORONTO BLUE JAYS and HOUSTON ASTROS are both playing post-season baseball for the first time in 22 and 10 years, respectively. Both the JAYS and ASTROS spent long stretches in atrocious uniforms, and both have reverted to classic unis over the past couple years and have seen their fortunes improve substantially. There's probably (definitely) no connection, but it never hurts to dress for the job you want... The meme machine we've all been waiting for: the TRUMP HAT GENERATOR...
