Tons of respect for ALEXANDER WANG. No matter how his time at BALENCIAGA's remembered (my guess: "Whoa, I almost forgot he did that!"), what he's accomplished in the past decade with his own label is so impressive. 23 stand-alone boutiques worldwide, a legion of devoted customers, and, in my mind, a genuine impact on the look of the past decade. Suspect his handbags and slouchy, slubby tees will end up being some of my material hallmarks of the 2010s... Wonder if it wasn't always the plan to make his stint at BALENCIAGA a quick one before returning to his label full-time... JEFF STAPLE, designer of one of the most sought-after sneakers of all time and all-around cultural impresario, had a nice chat with MONOCLE WEEKLY. Touches on how a specific sneaker becomes popular, why NIKES will always be more interesting than BALENCIAGAS, and the most expensive shoes STAPLE will hoop in. I can't quite relate, though I did eventually skate in my first pair of SB DUNKS. Skip ahead to 39:20 for STAPLE's segment... Saw a BUDDHIST MONK wearing ROSHES that matched his robe today. Strong look...
