QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
I think celebrities in fashion and in fragrance is a joke. It doesn't work. Most of the fragrances have failed. To make clothes that are special, having a celebrity name does not translate into creating fashion. I think the celebrity thing is nothing.

CALVIN KLEIN himself has all but confirmed that RAF SIMONS will be named Creative Director of KLEIN's namesake label, alluding to an announcement coming later this summer, once the non-compete clause from SIMONS' DIOR contract lapses. SIMONS fans should be excited -- they're about to see RAF take on a new and daunting challenge. CALVIN KLEIN has some history, sure, but it's not nearly as deep or as fiercely protected as DIOR's, so SIMONS will have every opportunity to leave his mark on the brand. It was alleged that DIOR's reluctance to give SIMONS complete creative control played a part in his resignation, so expect to see SIMONS' fingerprints on everything from CALVIN KLEIN's clothing, to its retail design, to its ad campaigns. Those interested in the label's legacy should be excited, too. Former CEO TOM MURRAY once referred to CALVIN KLEIN COLLECTION, the brand's upmarket ready-to-wear line, as a marketing expense -- that could change under SIMONS, whose arrival instantly makes COLLECTION shows must-sees. As brands worldwide shed the seasonal and gender divides once taken for immutable facts of the business, this hire feels like a coup for a label primed for reinvention... I often use this space to rip on UNDER ARMOUR's sneaker design, and yesterday, the rest of the internet joined in to mock the CURRY TWO LOWS, which are utterly bereft of swag. UNDER ARMOUR just rehired designer DAVE DOMBROW less than three months after he was poached by NIKE, naming him Chief Design Officer. His first order of business should be burying all existing pairs of those things in a NEW MEXICO landfill like the E.T. ATARI game... Today marks Day One of MADE LA, featuring runway shows from MOSCHINO, TYLER, THE CREATOR's GOLF WANG and a shoppable presentation by HOOD BY AIR. Earlier this week, HYPEBEAST surveyed key members of the L.A. fashion industry, and we spoke to L.A. designer JERRY LORENZO about his label, FEAR OF GOD... It's Day One of LONDON COLLECTIONS: MEN, too. Particularly looking forward to CRAIG GREEN, profiled this morning by BUSINESS OF FASHION.
