QUOTABLES!
quote of the day
Faerie Magazine, with its universe of wolves, mermaids, narwhals and decaying Gothic architecture…reminds us that magazines have always been producers of magic, turning ordinary life into something altogether more complicated, captivating and strange.

While there’s no shortage of nichey lifestyle magazines on the market – think KINFOLK, APARTAMENTO, MODERN FARMER (RIP) – I was shocked to learn of the existence of FAERIE MAGAZINE. A glossy quarterly dedicated to “people who have a thing for faeries,” it revels in the whimsical and twee. The concept brought me back to that article about the couple in SEATTLE who act and dress like they live in the Victorian era. A lot of people were upset by their pretentiousness, but I on the other hand prefer to celebrate people who allow some semblance of romance and fantasy into their lives. If you can’t live your life the way you want to, what’s the point? FAERIE MAGAZINE might not appeal to my particular aesthetics (call me when there’s a lifestyle magazine for the spooky and macabre) but I’m genuinely glad it exists…Also inspiring is this video of SANAM SINDHI, the badass Desi with fire engine red hair that RIHANNA handpicked from INSTAGRAM to appear in her “B**** BETTER HAVE MY MONEY” video. Not only does she look incredible, she spits fire on topics like cultural appropriation, self-care and body art…I wanted to be really excited about an article titled “Meet the New Generation of Body Positive Pioneers,” but unfortunately this I-D article falls flat. How could an article on body positivity focus mainly on impossibly beautiful blonde women, women above a sample size but with societally sanctioned curvy bodies, and only one black woman? And yet… This article by YULI SCHEIDT on being fat with small boobs is a good antidote.
