The $20 Billion Sports Media Problem No One Can Answer

Watching sports has never been more complicated or expensive. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Good morning from Los Angeles. I am sending this a day late since I figured you didn’t need to hear from me during the Super Bowl. (It was one of the most exciting games in memory, and also the most expensive.)

I was in Las Vegas for about 30 hours, and the most-discussed topic among executives — other than Taylor Swift’s whereabouts — was a new joint venture between Fox, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery. The three media giants are creating a sports streaming service that will include live feeds of channels such as ESPN and TNT for an undisclosed price.
