R. Dean Taylor, the Canadian singer-songwriter on Motown Records who hit No. 1 in 1970 with “Indiana Wants Me,” has died at 82.

When a famous hit-making songwriting team decided to quit Motown Records in the late ‘60s, it was a Toronto man that helped Diana Ross and the Supremes continue their chart-topping success.

In, 1968 Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland, responsible for a string of eight Supremes chart-toppers that began with 1964’s “Where Did Our Love Go” and continued through 1966’s “You Keep Me Hangin’ On,” departed the Detroit home of the Motown Sound due to a royalty spat.
