Vogue will release a limited-edition cover featuring Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who is set to be sworn into office on Wednesday, in formal attire.
“In celebration of this historic moment, we will be publishing a limited number of special edition #InaugurationDay issues, featuring Vice President-elect @kamalaharris,” wrote Vogue on Instagram on Tuesday. Accompanying the caption was a photograph of Harris wearing a powder blue suit — one of her signature looks — in front of a gold backdrop.
This new cover follows the backlash that occurred earlier this month when a February magazine cover showed Harris in casual clothes and Converse sneakers, a look she was seen in on the campaign trail.
This particular image of the Vice President-elect was not what her team had initially agreed upon, an anonymous team member told the Associated Press, as they were unaware that the cover photo had been switched until images were leaked.
At the time, Vogue explained that it went with the more informal image of Harris for the cover because the photo captured her “authentic, approachable nature, which we feel is one of the hallmarks of the Biden-Harris administration.”
The magazine further said, at the time, that both images were released via digital magazine covers as “a response to the seriousness of this moment in history, and the role she has to play leading our country forward.”
