How the Nationals built a World Series roster
For the first time in franchise history, the Washington Nationals are World Series champions.
In building a winning team, the Nationals drew from every talent pool available to a major league club. They made smart draft picks, big free agent signings, key trades and aggressive moves in the international market.

Ryan Zimmerman – who hit the Nationals' first World Series home run in Tuesday night's Game 1 win – was drafted by the franchise in 2005 and has been with the team for every season of its existence in D.C. Several key contributors, on the other hand, arrived before or even during this season, including closer Daniel Hudson.
Four players drafted by team

This is actually Kurt Suzuki’s and Asdrubal Cabrera’s second stint with the Nationals. Cabrera was traded to Washington in July 2014 but left in free agency during the offseason, and Suzuki was traded from the Athletics in August 2012 only to be traded back the next summer. The graphic only shows their statistics since they were most recently acquired by the team.
Correction: An earlier version of this graphic omitted Howie Kendrick’s 178 PA for the Nationals in 2017. He was traded to Washington in July of that year.
