TIDAL’s New Credits Pages Highlight Songwriters, Producers & More

As songwriters, producers and engineers demand more recognition for their musical contributions, TIDAL is giving those behind-the-scenes creatives individual profile pages on the streaming platform.
On the streamer’s new interactive credits pages, users can explore everyone from background singers and lyricists to mixing engineers and session musicians. The pages are a step up from the existing credits and liner notes that Jay-Z‘s streaming service has offered for songs and albums since 2017.
Once on an Artist Page, users can tap the roles under the artist’s name or scroll down to get a look at the artist’s “enhanced credits” section. Users can then click on a specific role to display only the songs the artist has contributed towards as a songwriter, producer, composer or other capacity. You can even filter the list further by artist to listen to, say, every Ariana Grande song Pharrell has produced.
The new feature — part of a credits database that TIDAL is building with labels and artists — is meant to encourage users to appreciate music in new ways, benefitting both the artist and listener.

TIDAL is the latest music company to ramp up its recognition of music creators in backstage roles. Spotify began displaying credits for songwriters and producers in February 2018, after launching its Secret Genius program to highlight those unsung heroes earlier that summer. Meanwhile, Session, the Swedish tech start-up co-founded by songwriters Max Martin and ABBA‘s Björn Ulvaeus, in March announced a partnership with Pro Tools to automatically embed writing credits in recording files.
