On the charts dated June 15, Billboard launches new Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers surveys, along with other genre-based rankings, based on weekly activity on the Billboard Hot 100 and other “Hot”-named genre song lists that blend streaming, airplay and sales data.
Finneas O’Connell leads both the inaugural Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts, thanks to four Hot 100 entries this week that he solely produced and either wrote or co-wrote with his sister, Billie Eilish.
“Bad Guy,” which he co-wrote, ranks the highest, at No. 2. “When the Party’s Over,” which he solely authored, places at No. 44, followed by “Bury a Friend” (co-writer; No. 53) and “Ocean Eyes” (sole writer; No. 86).
O’Connell solely produced Eilish’s debut LP When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which has spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and ranks at No. 2 this week.
O’Connell, 21, is a recording artist himself, under the mononym Finneas. Outside of his work with Eilish, he’s written for Rebecca Black and The Knocks, among others.
Elsewhere on the Hot 100 Songwriters chart, J. Cole ranks at No. 2 thanks to “The London,” (No. 17 on the Hot 100), which he co-wrote with Young Thug and Travis Scott, and “Middle Child” (No. 25), on which he’s the sole writer.
Eilish places at No. 3 on Hot 100 Songwriters, Louis Bell takes No. 4 and No. 5 is a five-way tie among Atticus Ross, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jozzy, Lil Nas X and Trent Reznor, all credited as co-writers on Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Cyrus, as the track tops the Hot 100 for a 10th week. Khalid rounds out the 10-position chart at No. 10.
On the Hot 100 Producers chart, Louis Bell ranks at No. 2, below O’Connell, thanks to producing credits on Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker” (No. 5 on this week’s Hot 100), Post Malone’s “Wow.” (No. 6), Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” (No. 7), Halsey’s “Without Me” (No. 12) and 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Easier” (No. 63).
Producing tandem Disclosure (brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence) starts at No. 3 on Hot 100 Producers, followed by Ross, Reznor and YoungKio (“Old Town Road”) all at No. 4, Frank Dukes (No. 7), Scott Hendricks (No. 8), Dann Huff (No. 9) and, rounding out the 10-spot tally, T-Minus (No. 10).
The Hot 100 Songwriters and Producers charts, plus corresponding genre charts for R&B/hip-hop, rap, R&B, country, rock, dance/electronic, Latin, Christian and gospel, will post on billboard.com/biz on Thursday, June 13. Each corresponding genre chart is based on writers and producers’ credits on “Hot”-named genre charts. For example, Country Songwriters is based on writing and producing credits on the Hot Country Songs chart.
The charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter or producer for each attributed song that appears on the respective charts. As with Billboard‘s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally. The dividing of points will lead to occasional ties for some rankings.
