Bruce Springsteen is about to turn in the key to his dressing room at New York’s Walter Kerr Theatre, which has been the home of Springsteen on Broadway, his Tony-winning production, since its opening on Oct. 12, 2017.
The show shines a spotlight on the seasoned rocker with little more than his guitar, a piano, a lifetime of stories and the occasional duet with wife Patti Scialfa in its program, and closes on Saturday night (Dec. 15).
A Springsteen on Broadway Netlfix documentary directed by Thom Zimny, a frequent collaborator of Springsteen’s behind the camera, premieres on Sunday (Dec. 16), and the Springsteen on Broadway album saw its release through Columbia Records on Friday (Dec. 14).
Though Springsteen on Broadway will see an extended second life thanks to the streaming service, the Boss marked the end of this particular chapter with a heartfelt thank you to all those who made his first Broadway foray a reality. He calls his year with Springsteen on Broadway “one of the most creatively memorable” of his life before bidding his audience adieu for now: “Our closing is bittersweet but more adventures await down the road. I’ll see you there.”
